Belfast City Council are currently undertaking a 14 week consultation into a draft Irish language policy for the very first time.

Belfast City Hall has long presided over a culture of limited progress on Irish language rights and has been hailed by many in the past as a 'monolingual empire', offering no official space for Irish or its community of speakers in its structures, spaces or policies.

This policy, if adopted as is, would be a significant advancement in the ongoing quest for language rights and would give the Irish language its rightful place within the council.
