Tá an domhan ag athrú. Tá an tsochaí ag athrú. Agus leis sin caithfidh an Stát féin athrú. Tá athbheochan pobalbhunaithe faoi lánseoil ar fud na hÉireann, ach tá borradh speisialta, ceannródaíocht faoi na hiarrachtaí ó thuaidh i láthair na huaire. Tágann sin sna sála ar bhlianta, agus go deimhin de chéadta, d’imeallú, d’ionsaithe agus de neamhaird ón Stát ar an teanga agus ar an phobal.
The Irish language is going from strength to strength. We are in the middle of a grass-roots, community led revival that is seeing admission rates in Irish language schools soaring, uptake in adult Irish classes going through the roof, and a campaign for language rights that has put the language front and centre. An Dream Dearg has recaptured the imagination of Gaels across Ireland and around the world. We demand a better future. We demand equality. We all must strive to create a better world where diversity is celebrated, where tolerance is at the very least promoted, and where rights are enshrined in law.
Ach ná bíodh aon dul amú orainn. Tá cearta teanga uainn. Tá reachtaíocht láidir cheart- bhunaithe á héileamh. Tá athrú córasach sa Stát ó thuaidh de dhíth chun fadhbanna fad- bhunaithe a athrú agus dúshláin mhór-aitheanta a shárú. In 1998 gealladh ré úr comhionnanais don Ghaeilge. Níor fíoradh an fhís sin riamh.
The Good Friday Agreement promised Irish language protections. An Irish language Act was then promised at St Andrew's in 2006 with and again in the New Decade, New Approach agreement in 2020. Caithfidh muid leanúint ar aghaidh leis an fheachtas #AchtAnois chun go mbainfidh muid amach gach rud a gealladh dúinn, agus cuid mhór rudaí eile. What can you do? We all have a role to play. Learn the Irish language. Use the Irish language. Share the Irish language and celebrate it. Support Irish medium education. Take part in the grass-roots revival that has brought the Irish language front and centre.
Is linne ar fad í agus tá an teanga, agus an pobal, ag dul ó neart go neart. Téimis ar an turas teanga seo le chéile. Leanfaimid orainn ag eagrú, ag agóidíocht, ag stocaireacht agus ag troid gan stad gan staonadh go dtí go bhfaighimid ár gcearta teanga, agus brúfaidh muid ar aghaidh chun na cearta sin a chur i bhfeidhm agus a láidriú sna blianta atá romhainn.
To echo the words of our renowned Nobel Prize Winner Seamus Heaney: “Not to learn Irish is to miss the opportunity of understanding what life in this country has meant and could mean in a better future. It is to cut oneself off from ways of being at home. If we regard self-understanding, mutual understanding, imaginative enhancement, cultural diversity and a tolerant political atmosphere as desirable attainments, we should remember that a knowledge of the Irish language is essential in their realisation”
Siúilaimis le chéile. Seasaimis le chéile. Scairtimis le chéile. #AchtAnois
